PINK is a beautiful color. More than femininity, the color speaks compassion, love and power.
This was widely seen all throughout the month of October in line with Breast Cancer Awareness month through various activities most especially in fashion. From Oct. 23 to 29, an exhibit showing support for the cause was on display at SM City Cebu’s The Northwing atrium.
The “Pink Barbie” exhibit displayed Barbie dolls dressed in one-of-a-kind designs in varying pink tones by 32 University of San Carlos Fashion Design graduating students and alumni: Celine Borromeo, Stef Tirado, Lian Lacandalo, Paco Serafica, Alex Eturma, Page Uy, Exur Lopena, Emem Makawili, Verna Mapula, Lavelle Vasquez, Jem Borces, Pearl Arandia, John Arellano, Matthia Tangoan, Roxanne Barroquillo, Elgreg Orais, Clieza Mayol, Bea Bajarias, Jan Nicole Tiong, Niño Benito, Fresha Charessa Belara, Mary Joy Agir, Karen Deidree Cantay, Cris Diane Ty, Shayne Remoreras, Hannah Laye Noel, Nicole Caparoso, Benese Andrea Lapiña, Glizza Armamento, Rabbi Castro, Alexa Venice Rosas and Aira Pascua.
The theme this year is red carpet—better yet, pink carpet. Borromeo won first place with her design followed by Arellano who won second place and Borces who bagged third place.
“Pink Barbie” is hosted by SM City Cebu together with ICanServe Foundation Inc., Rotary Cebu Fuente, USC Fashion Design, Barbie and Toy Kingdom. Proceeds for every doll purchased will go to the designer as well as to the non-profit organization, ICanServe Foundation Inc., armed with the mission to provide knowledge and aid and information for breast cancer awareness and help survivors recover effectively.
