Davao official: Seal award a testament of city's good governance

THE Seal of Good Local Governance is a testament to the good governance under Byaheng DO30 platform of the administration of Davao City Mayor Inday-Sara Duterte-Carpio, an official said.

Davao City administrator Zuleika Lopez, in an interview on Monday, November 13, lauded the Seal of Good Local Governance that was bagged by the city for the fourth time.

"We are very happy. The mayor is very happy. On behalf of the city government of Davao we wish to share this award to everyone because it is really a testament to the good governance being affected by the Byaheng D030 administration particularly in the fields of financial administration and accountability for disaster preparedness," she said.

Byaheng DO30 under the administration of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte is a three-year initiative of at least 30 doable and meaningful projects starting 2016.

These priorities are Poverty Alleviation, Infrastructure Development, Solid Waste Management, Education, Health, Agriculture, Tourism, Transportation Planning and Traffic Management, Peace and Order, and Disaster Risk Reduction and Mitigation.

Lopez said that the SGLG award is a recognition the city wishes to sustain, not just this year but the years to come.

"We do congratulate everyone. It is something that the city government can do alone. We need support from the citizens of Davao so maraming salamat po."

Davao City was announced to be among the 60 LGUs in the country that passed the validation of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).

The mayor, in a report, thanked all the government offices of the city for their efforts to get the award.

"I am very happy and I would like to thank all the government offices within the Davao city local government for their continued effort to give efficient and effective public service to the Dabawenyos and this award is a challenge for us to improve and do more and be innovative with our work as public servant," she said. She added that with the award, the city has been given more challenge to improve for the next year's judging.

Davao City Public Safety and Security Command Center (PSSCC) head Benito De Leon said that the city deserves the award. "I think it is appropriate the city is indeed recognized for its practices of good governance. I have watched many local government units and it seem that this city has some good practices in place and the city mayor has provided excellent leadership by which the different department heads have done their best also in providing services to the city particularly to the people," he said.

Davao City Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang, for his part, also said that he was not surprised that the city got the award. "I was not surprised under Mayor Duterte-Carpio because Mayor Inday is really transparent, she has also a political will, one example is the Aeon Building remember, when she said that it should be done with the certain period they immediately complied with it," he said.

Davao City Investment and Promotions Center head Lemuel Ortonio said that the award will show potential investors that the city has constituted programs that benefit the general public. The Seal of the Good Local Governance award becomes basis for incentives to be given to government employees. (KVC)
