BTAO told to regulate PUJs without headlights at night

BACOLOD City Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran urged the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to regulate the public utility vehicles (PUJs) drivers who are not using headlights during nighttime.

Familiaran, who led the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) meeting Monday, November 13, at the Bacolod Government Center, said he will require Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of BTAO, to present his plan to arrest the erring drivers.

He said Acebuche should coordinate with the Land Transportation Office-Western Visayas.

“It is my observation that the PUJ drivers who are not using headlights are involved in traffic accidents. We will discuss this on our next meeting so that we can address this problem to reduce the traffic accidents,” he added.

“They (PUJ drivers) should cooperate and follow the traffic rules to secure their safety and also of the passengers,” the vice mayor said.

Familiaran lauded the accomplishments of the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) in reducing robbery and theft incidents.

He said the deployment of policemen in various areas is big help to reduce crime incidents.

Familiaran said he is hopeful that Superintendent Roderick Minong, officer-in-charge of BCPO, will retain the deployment of policemen in various areas to pre-empt the operation of the lawless elements.

He added that 15 motorcycle policemen were also deployed for visibility patrol especially in the vicinity of business establishments.
