ENGELBERT Humperdinck is not only the King of Romance but is also the king of barkada bondings and inumans. Still fresh from my memory are the times in the early 80’s when my father would play through our classic turntable the line-up of songs of the romantic balladeer.
Since the songs played almost fill our home, we cannot help except to listen and love the lyrics, the melody and the tune. Sometimes I cannot help but sing too along with the song being played.
Often we can hear the songs of “Engelbert” in drinking sessions, putting rather sentimental the drinkers for their past experiences on loving and losing someone they love. The love songs carry with them some sentiments of lost loves and the happiness they feel in loving someone.
Perhaps in the whole wide world, Engelbert is much popular that different age generations know his songs and when they hear the same, they cannot help except to sing along regardless where they are or what they are doing.
For fifty years, the balladeer serenaded various places on earth. His songs defy genre that even young kids of today can sing the songs that were popularized several years ago.
Engelbert’s songs enchanted many, both the “in-love” and the heartbroken. The songs seems to cause the nostalgic effect on one who has fallen and never been caught in the arms of someone. Indeed, the songs of Engelbert capture the heart of one who has experienced both joy and pain of being in love.
Recently, I heard over the local radio that Engelbert shall be performing a concert in Pampanga as part of his 50th year anniversary concert tour. Kapampangans are lucky enough to have the balladeer live at the LausGroup Event Centre. It’s an honor for Pampanga to have Engelbert perform right at the heart of Central Luzon.
Corporate Guarantee and Insurance Company (CGIC), DWRW 95.1 FM and SunStar Pampanga, in partnership with Ovation Productions should be thanked for bringing into reality the dreams of many Kapampangans to see and hear live their singing idol.
Engelbert Humperdinck will actually have other concerts in other parts of the country. However, Pampanga can boast of being the first stop of the renowned singer while in the country. Other venues of the concert include Smart Araneta Coliseum, a sports arena in Laguna and in Iloilo City.
As a fan, I can’t wait to see and enjoy the golden voice of Engelbert on November 23 at the LausGroup Event Centre. Many of my friends are likewise excited to capture the moment to be with our idol balladeer while singing live.
