LP has own ‘laglag-bala,’ says PJ

THE “Liberal Party’s (LP) suspension spree” at the Cebu Provincial Board is like the laglag-bala modus at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

Former representative Pablo John Garcia said this following the suspension of five councilors in Alegria who are all One Cebu party members.

“The Liberal Party plants cases, like bullets, against members of One Cebu. They try to extort loyalty from them, and if they don’t switch sides to the Liberal Party, they suspend them,” said Pablo John, secretary general of One Cebu.

Last Monday, PB approved and adopted the committee report of the committee on complaints and investigation suspending Alegria municipal councilors Emelita Guisadio, Nemia Alocillo, Alejandro Villaneza, Maria Letecia Donayre and Diosdao Lerio for three months after they were found guilty of grave dereliction of duty.

The five One Cebu councilors had allegedly not been attending regular and special sessions.

The suspensions followed Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia’s six-month suspension by the PB that started last May.

Pablo John accused PB Member Peter John Calderon of being the mastermind of the suspensions of One Cebu members.

Calderon is a member of the investigating committee.

“While Calderon is only a member of the committee on complaints and discipline, he is the de facto chairman since he is the only lawyer in that committee, who presides over all meetings, prepares all orders and decisions for others to sign,” the press statement read.

In an interview, Calderon told Sun.Star Cebu that Pablo John’s allegation is not true because the committee found out that “there was a deliberate intent on the part of the respondents (the five councilors) to paralyze the Sangguniang Bayan.”

He said he cannot dictate on the other members of the investigating committee and the PB.

He said that PB Member Arleigh Jay Sitoy, who resigned as the majority floor leader and chairman of the investigating committee, signed the committee report although he was no longer an LP member.

“I’m just a member of the committee. I’m just doing my job. He (Pablo John) is the one politicking,” Calderon said.

Pablo John of One Cebu and Calderon of LP will vie for a seat in Congress in the new seventh district of Cebu next year.

“Is it any wonder why, so far, of the six elective local officials who have been suspended, all have been from One Cebu party, and all have been from municipalities in the newly-created seventh congressional district, where he is running for congressman?” Pablo John said.
