Cebu City dances its way to the top of Batang Pinoy

THE Cebu City Niños and Cebu Province flaunted their force in the penultimate day of competition to take the top two spots in the overall medal standing of the 2017 Batang Pinoy Visayas Leg in Dumaguete City yesterday.

Cebu City exhibited grace and won all 10 gold medals in dancesport at the Lamberto Macias Sports Complex to improve to 40-43-43 and take the lead away from host Dumaguete City.

Cebu Province made its presence felt in taekwondo, racking up 10 gold medals to improve to 34-25-34 , good enough for second place as of 6 p.m.

Dumaguete City slowed down after putting on a tear last Tuesday and dropped to third place at 33-21-26.

Cebu Province’s taekwondo team reigned in the kyurogi competition at the Negros Oriental Convention Center. Fiona Sedulo pocketed the gold medal in the girls’ cadet finweight division, Kristine Joy Villacarlos won in the girls’ cadet bantam weight and Christine Villasor ruled the girls’ cadet light middleweight.

Leo Mihael Mananquil won the gold medal in the boys’ cadet lightweight and John Louie Callino won in the boys’ cadet heavyweight.

In the girls’ juniors, Royda Jane Ranile bagged the gold medal in flyweight, Vanesa Mae Catubig topped the featherweight, Sophia Labta ruled the light middleweight, Kym Therese Guilot won the light heavyweight class and Jose Andrei Pajota added a gold medal in the boys’ junior light heavy weight.

Cebu City’s usual prospect, dancesports, delivered 10 gold medals from Francis Isaia Diluvio and Paige Ianah Silud (junior latin A, junior standard A), Hezekiah Sobrevega and Rydel Rowella Pat (junior standard C), Mark Gabriel Dumaran and Ysabelle Monique Zambo (juvenile latin D, juvenile standard D).

Other gold medalists were Nigel John Angel and Shadelle Niña Hernandez (juvenile Latin C, juvenile Standard C), Ralph Kevin Lapaz and Mitchloni Dnauanao (juvenile Latin A, juvenile Standard A) and Niño Salve and Trixie Pearl Dicdican (junior latin C).

Cebu City also won five gold medals in taekwondo—Xander Palacpac and Rebecca Ponte in the mixed cadet pair poomsae, Nohea Dela Fuente and Romeo Reyes in the junior mixed pair , Palacpac in the cadet male individual, Johann Concepcion in the junior male individual, and Malaki Arturo III reigned in the kyurogi event.

Cebu City also won both the boys’ and girls’ divisions of beach volleyball at the Rizal Boulevard. The boys’ team had El Kenrick Geromo and Niño Jerome Mahilum, and the girls’ squad had Hannah Xyrah Cabansay and Nathalia Red Labiste.

Over at the tracks, Cebu City won two gold medals thanks to Mary Joy Loberanis in the girls’ 1,500-meter and the girls’ 4x400m relay team. The track and field team of Cebu City finished with eight gold medals, five silvers and one bronze.

In basketball, Cebu Province and Mandaue City will face off in the championship match in boys’ basketball today. (RSC)
