1T tech developers, entrepreneurs meet

IN a bid to foster digital tools in entrepreneurship, close to a thousand developers are slated to meet with local entrepreneurs on Nov. 18 at the J Center Mall in Mandaue City.

The confab is part of the Devfest and GDayX, a collaboration of Google Developers Group (GDG) Cebu and Google Business Group (GBG) Cebu.

The event will be a whole day packed with discussions, sessions, code labs, exhibits, pitching and workshops centered on the theme “Empowering Developers and Entrepreneurs,” that talks on different Google technologies.

Some of the speakers include Manikantan Krishnamurthy, Google developer relations in Singapore; JP Palpallatoc, Digital Lead of Accenture Philippines; and Albert Padin, co-founder and chief technology officer at Symph.

In an interview yesterday, GDG community manager Shad Roi de la Cruz said the group expects 500 entrepreneurs to join the event.

“We want our entrepreneurs to know what are the opportunities that technology can bring to their business and how our local developers can help them solve their problems through technology,” De la Cruz said.

“Tech will give more autonomy to their work as business owners. It (Doing business) will be easier and more efficient. In addition, marketing is also one big area that they can do digitally,” added the developer.

GDG worldwide is a group of developers and volunteers that regularly collaborate to learn more about new technologies, with seven communities in the Philippines, including GDG Cebu.

Meanwhile, GBG is a community of business professionals that come together to share knowledge about Google web technologies for business success.

In order to speed up the push for digital transformation in the local scene, De la Cruz underscored the importance of having events that will allow developers and entrepreneurs to network and learn about the latest trends in technology and the marketplace.

Part of the breakout sessions in the coming event is an opportunity for entrepreneurs to pitch their business challenges to developers. This way, De la Cruz said, developers can brainstorm on how they can solve the challenges.
