Oro village chief: Don’t obstruct coastal road’s sidewalk

A VILLAGE chief has issued a warning to residents and informal settlers near the newly-opened Cagayan de Oro coastal road against extending their houses and building new structures that would obstruct pedestrian traffic at the road’s walkway.

This after two new structures were torn down on Wednesday, November 15, after one settler extended his house while the other family built a new structure at the shoulder of the road.

Gusa village chief Marlo Tabac said one of the two families even resisted efforts by village officials to have the illegal structure dismantled prompting them to ask for police assistance.

Tabac said the officials of the barangay are keeping watch against similar actions by other residents and informal settlers.

"Do not extend, do not construct because we will have it demolished," Tabac said.

Tabac explained that extensions and new structures may not hamper traffic at the coastal road but it will get in the way of pedestrians.

Tabac has been reminding that existing laws and city ordinances will be enforce to those who violates the regulations implemented at the coastal road such as loitering beyond the allowable period, drinking alcoholic beverages and throwing of wastes.

Meanwhile, Tabac said traffic in Barangay Gusa especially at the junction has become manageable after taking several adjustments since the recent opening of the coastal road.

Tabac said more traffic law enforcers were positioned to manage the traffic flow at the intersection.

"Ang traffic sa first two days lang since sa opening sa coastal road kay ang mga truck wala pa kabalo aha mogawas unya daghan gusto mosulay og agi og mobisita sa coastal road (The traffic was only observed during the first 2 days since the opening because big trucks didn't know yet where to exit and many were eager to try the coastal road),"Tabac said.

But Tabac said vehicular accidents can easily cause traffic to grind to a halt because of delayed response of traffic investigators.

Tabac said deputized traffic investigators positioned nearby would help in immediately responding to vehicular mishaps.

"Layo kaayo ang investigator sa Kauswagan pa unya ang mga sakyanan nga involved sa traffic accidents dugay kaayo makuha unya maka-cause na og traffic (Traffic investigators are in Kauswagan and the delay of response will cause a long hours of traffic)," Tabac said.
