River levels critical, families evacuated

SOME families living near flood-prone areas and riverbanks were temporarily evacuated after the water reached the warning and critical level due to the heavy rain brought by the Low Pressure Area (LPA), which is affecting portions of Mindanao.

Based on the data acquired by SunStar Davao from the Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), their situational report showed that on Thursday evening, water level increased in areas of Barangay Tigatto, Barangay Matina Crossing and Barangay Maa.

There were three affected families who were evacuated to Barangay Tigatto at around 10:52 p.m. while in Matina and Maa, the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (BDDRMC) only signaled the first alarm to alert the residents.

The water level was already in code orange, which is a "warning" signal in the emergency parlance.

The rescue was initiated by emergency responders of respective BDRRMC. In Purok 1 Lote2x Uyanguren and Purok Lapanday, Barangay Tigatto, five families and eight individuals were evacuated to higher ground; while in Gravahan, Matina Crossing, there were five families and 38 individuals displaced as the Gravahan gym was converted to an evacuation center.
