SLUBHS Class ’68 golden jubilee set

MEMBERS of the Saint Louis University-Boys High School Class of 1968 from all over the world renew their camaraderie for the upcoming Golden Jubilee Reunion on January 26 to 28, 2018 at various venues in Baguio City.

More than a hundred is expected to attend the three day gathering which has been carefully planned since 2015 with organizers from both the Philippines and the US closely coordinating via social media and in-person meetings, all geared up towards meeting the goal of calling back home as many batch mates as possible by Baguio-based overall reunion chair Andrew Filler and US-based co-chair Rudy Liporada.

The Class ’68 batchmates will be welcomed on January 26 with a dinner, program and fellowship at the Hotel Veniz. On January 27, outdoor and indoor fun games will enable the batchmates to pit their skills and talents against each other in the spirit of camaraderie at the Baguio Country Club. Some will play golf while the others will compete in indoor games at the Recreation Center where an awards program will be held.

A visit to the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center immediately follows for the signing of the deed of donation, ribbon-cutting and the formal turnover of the Class ‘68 donation consisting of one unit of commercial type Oxygenated Alkaline Water Purifier and two units of Portable Ozone Air Purifiers. Expected to receive the donation is BGHMC director Dr. Ricardo Ruñez in the presence of the members of the BGHMC Advisory Board and Class ’68 members.

The donation is a manifestation of the support of SLUBHS Class ‘68 to BGHMC’s mission of promoting the health and well-being of its patient-beneficiaries as well as its programs in preventing and controlling diseases. Both purifiers were invented in 2009 by Class ’68 batchmate Rodrigo Duque, an engineer by profession, who spearheaded the donation on behalf of his batchmates.

The BHS Class ’68 will later integrate with the other BHS batches in the evening during the BHS grand alumni homecoming bonfire in an open-air fellowship, dinner and music from rock bands.

Activities on January 28 will be both spiritual and nostalgic for the Golden Jubilarians as they will experience once again the ambience of the school that provided them basic Christian high school education. The time for giving gratitude for the rare opportunity to hold a 50th anniversary reunion as well as for 50 years of a life of success and good health, will be expressed through a Eucharistic celebration or Holy Mass followed by a picnic-style lunch at the sprawling SLU Maryheights campus in Bakakeng.

Capping the entire three-day 50th anniversary reunion is the jubilee dinner-dance and program with music by a live band at the Hotel Supreme. The program will include portions on giving tribute to their teachers in high school as well as remembering batch mates who have departed. A special entertainment will highlight the musical skills of Class ’68 batchmates after they have formed a band among themselves that will play some of their favorite 1960s songs.
