Woman faces extortion, threat charges

A WOMAN is facing charges before the court for extracting money from a businessman at Marfori Heights Subdivision in Barangay 9-A in Davao City.

Charged with extortion and light threats is Charlene Ramiro. This was stemmed after she has been asking money from the common-law-husband of the complainant.

Prosecutor Maria Estrella G. Dulla-Valles found probable cause to charge the accused based on the complaint filed by Lee Tom Dondoy.

In a two-page resolution dated November 9, Dondoy attested that she received a text message from the accused that she will only stop from what she has been doing in exchange for something.

The complainant said she found out that her common-law-husband for about 20 years was sending money to the accused following the text messages she found in his cellular phone.

Dondoy then contacted the number and was able to talk to the accused. She requested the accused to stop going between her and her common-law-husband, which Ramiro agreed.

But the complainant was surprised when she again found out that the accused was again texting her common-law-husband. She then sent a text message to the accused and the latter replied.

On November 5, the complainant received another text message from the accused. The latter told Dondoy that she will stop if she will give P10,000.

The series of text messages showed that the accused threatened the complainant. The latter then sought for police assistance on November 7. An entrapment operation was set that led to the arrest of the accused.

Ramiro is currently detained at the San Pedro Police Station.
