Coincidence or it was meant to be

Coincidence happens and those who chance on it are amazed how things fall into place without personal designs or intentions.

But is coincidence real or are they part of a design of Someone or something that is not within the control of an individual’s intention and desire.

Teacher and writer Laura Pederson says: “Coincidence is God’s way of being anonymous.” And writer John Green says “It's hard to believe in coincidence, but it's even harder to believe in anything else.”

This is another dog story but not like the other where we lost two faithful loving dogs in one night. Rather, this story is how we acquired a husky a couple of weeks ago.

S-key, is a Siberian husky who became the newest addition to our puppies. Barely five months old, friendly, still adjusting but can now obey commands like sit, stay and shake hands. Though the youngest of our dogs he has now become a travel companion of my husband to the lowlands.

The first time, he got dizzy and threw up and pooh all over the car seat, giving my husband a job of cleaning eventually the whole car. So the following trips, he starves until he ends his trip, or what others say “fasting” for a reason. He has adjusted to Baguio and La Union weather, and the moment he gets too warm he dives in the pool to cool off.

But the interesting story is how he came to our lives.

One day last month at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon, my husband John and Rhys, our nephew buried a Belgian Milionis after he did not survive the parvo virus despite the care and medicine given him since he showed signs of infection. This was a very sad afternoon for them at the farm.

As my husband relates it, just after the dog was buried, all was quiet and sadness hovers after burying a dear companion.

When he checked his phone, there were four missed calls and one text message. The text message came from Carol, his cousin saying “Manong, maykan to dagasen your puppy, a bi-eyed husky.”

He was being asked to get a puppy, and he was amazed because he had not asked her, neither did he know that they have a Siberian husky. Neither did she know they just buried a dog. He had to check his phone twice to make sure he was reading it right. So he calls and tells me about this phenomenon and I said “only God knows and it can only be God.”

As William Shakespeare writes: “Trifles light as air are to the jealous confirmations strong as proofs of holy writ” in Othello.

That Saturday, they went straight to Quezon Hill and got S-Key or special canine. His eyes are of different colors, one is blue and the other is brown. The blue turns to red when hit by light at night. He looks like he's frowning all the time, but tends to jump to play. He likes to be friendly with Bondying, our cat but Bondying ignores him. It will wait and we will see what happens after some time.

When my husband posted it in Facebook, he got various reactions like George Cruz saying “rearrange dog and it is fully explained to you.” Yes, indeed God knows and He responds beyond our understanding. Rebecca Matlock Sloan said “It was meant to be. Sorry for the loss of your dog and congrats on the new one!” Coincidence it maybe but it could also be God’s design, for He is faithful and loving.

Alex Allan says “UMAPALAK - that's Ilocano for "Inggit ako" which is how I felt on seeing my brother John's new pet, a 5-month Siberian husky given to him by our cousin Carol and her husband Abe Fanged in Baguio. The puppy has beautiful blue and brown eyes but his expression is a perpetual frown. This breed likes to run (the work dog is used for pulling sleds in Alaska and northern Canada.) and will be giving his master all the exercise he needs.”

We are pet lovers, my husband and I, so there is no wonder I play pet rescue and farm friends, which makes my husband laughs when I say “I need to rescue my pets before I sleep.”
