Family joins Justice League run for therapy

RUNNING is for everybody and it becomes more fun when it’s spent together with family and friends.

This was what Brian Ceballo and his whole family did when they joined the 2017 Justice League Fun Run, which was attended by hundreds of runners at the SM City Cebu car park yesterday.

Ceballo, 39, ran together with his wife, Catherine, and sons Austin James and El Nathan John. They also donned different Justice League superhero costumes.

It was an inspiring sight to see Ceballo traversing the 3-kilometer route while pushing the wheelchair of Austin James, who has a mild cerebral palsy.

“It’s the first time that our whole family joined a fun run. I brought the kids here because they like superheroes and I wanted them to experience this fun event,” said Ceballo, a former football player from Polomolok, South Cotabato.

The activity outdoors keeps 10-year-old Austin James active, and that helps enhance his functional abilities. With this, the family is looking forward to become a regular fixture in running events.

“For someone with cerebral palsy, crowd exposure is necessary. If he’s (Austin James) not exposed to people, he gets uneasy,” said Ceballo, who works as engineer for Globe Telecom.

“My wife and I usually joined fun runs when we were in General Santos City. The kids had fun in their first run, and definitely we’re going to bring them back again to a fun run when we have time,” he said.

In the competitive race, Cebu’s elite runner Paul James Zafico topped the 10K run in 37:38 and was followed by Argenie Rozel in 40:19 and Junery Andales in 45:36.

Alven Bastismo (21:09) ruled the 5K race, Philip Entia (28:25) finished at second place and Madelyn Bedolido (29:41) was third.

Chrsitopher Napalla (10:59) topped the 3K run, Gerson Casinillo (11:55) placed second and James Janzel Noval (12:20) took third place.

The fun run was joined by about 500 runners and was part of the promotional event for the Justice League movie. (RSC)
