6 loose firearms surrendered

THREE high-powered firearms and three improvised guns were turned over by various individuals in northern Negros to the police last Friday, November 17.

Joint operatives of Regional Civil Security Unit (RCSU) in Western Visayas led by Senior Superintendent Jomil John Trio and Sagay City Police Station led by Chief Inspector Robert Mansueto visited a company in the city and had a dialogue with the management and its security officer.

Mansueto refused to name the company and the overseer due to security reasons.

He said RCSU-Western Visayas recalled the firearms of the company’s security officers in relation to the order of President Rodrigo Duterte prohibiting all companies and security agencies to possess high-powered firearms.

Mansueto said the company’s security personnel have been processing the renewal of the firearms’ licenses, but these are still pending because of the present administration's mandate to recall all high-powered firearms.

During the ceremonial turnover, three units of M16 armalite rifle were properly endorsed by the company to RCSU-Western Visayas and turned over to the city police station for safekeeping.

In Calatrava town, two homemade firearms, including a snub-nose .9mm caliber revolver and a defective .22 magnum caliber revolver were surrendered to the police through the police station's drop box intended for the campaign against loose firearms.

In Moises Padilla town, a sack containing a loose firearm was recovered by two members of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) in a public market on Juan Luna Street in Barangay 5.

The homemade 12-gauge shotgun with one live ammunition was endorsed to the town’s police.
