Mine firm to hike milling production

THE Apex Mining Corporation in Compostela Valley targets to increase their milling production by 66.67 percent from its current production of 1,800 to 3,000 tons per day within three years.

Lawyer Rodulfo Palma, assistant vice president-legal services, told reporters on Monday, November 20, during the weekly forum at The Annex of SM City Davao that part of their expansion is to increase the capacity of their plant to 3,000 to double their present production level.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), based on the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) has given them a production limit of 3,000 tons per day and thus, they want to maximize it through increasing the capacity of their plant to process up to the maximum limit.

This would also entail more employment for people and additional budget.

He said they target to develop other areas to increase their production level and expand their existing 2,200-hectare operation area.

"In the coming years, ang focus po natin is development of areas to buy in fact, tintingnan pa natin diyan two to three years from now, yong 1,800 milling capacity natin is gagawin nating up to 3,000 tons per day," he said, adding that they have pending application for other areas but he refused to divulge the details.

When asked how they ensure responsible mining, he said that they continue to orient their personnel on the safety standards and adherence to environmental laws in their operations.

"We make sure na kung ano ang regulation sinusunod natin and we also make sure na we train our people let them know ito yong parameters ng safety, ito ang paremeters ng environmental protection and we always trained them and do IEC with people around to make sure na hindi lang kami ang sususunod kung ano ang regulation [pati din sila]," he said.
