Maragusan road still in disrepair

MONTHS after a flood hit Compostela Valley in August washing out the road shoulder and portions of the earth below along the Nabunturan-Maragusan Road in Tandawan, the road remains in disrepair.

A set of photos was uploaded last November 17 by a netizen Cheryl Fajardo Manguilimutan on Facebook showing the hollowed out portion beneath the concrete road on a curve and has been shared 1,328 times as of writing.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Davao said they are already in the process of repairing it, although nothing has been done yet on the ground aside from putting up warning signs.

DPWH-Davao spokesperson Dean Ortiz explained to SunStar Davao in a phone interview on Monday, November 20, that the flood scoured the earth beneath as the road straddles a mountain.

“What we are doing now is that the Comval District Engineering Office has already put up warning signs and has deployed personnel to facilitate traffic for motorists plying the route,” he said.

Comval Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy and Representative Maricar Zamora acknowledged the problem saying their offices are working together.

“We also have set aside a budget for the improvement of the road section and it is already in the 2018 pipeline,” Ortiz said.
