Furniture City woos locals with bazaar

FURNITURE City is cashing in on the high spending power of Filipinos this holiday season, which is traditionally associated with consumer spending.

The showroom owned by Lenbert Manufacturing, a producer of outdoor furniture, is mounting a three-day bazaar this Nov. 24 to 26 at the Paradise Garden Events Pavilion along H. Abellana St., Jagobiao, Mandaue City.

The bazaar, to be participated in by 35 exhibitors, will display products for indoor and outdoor furniture, gifts, toys and houseware, garments, fashion jewelry, food items and other gift ideas at 50 to 70 percent off.

Furniture City general manager Osbert Ong said they want to make export-quality products accessible to consumers and market the showroom as a viable avenue for small furniture players who haven’t found a perfect place to showcase their products.

Jim Cassels, marketing director of Furniture City, said they picked the holiday season as this is the time where consumers are awash with cash.

According to Cassels, furniture export companies have long been courting the local market since the global financial crisis led some export companies to close or downsize operations in 2008.

“The foreign market isn’t on the upswing. And I think it is not going anywhere to where it was,” said Cassels, adding that its recovery remains slow.

But, the local market, according to Ong, is “doing very well.” Share of the local market is close to hitting 50 percent, said Cassels, thanks to the healthy growth in population, expansion of the middle class, and busy property, accommodation and food and beverage activities.
