DepEd to public: Be vigilant vs fake news

THE Department of Education (DepEd) has warned the public against fake news, especially reports on class suspension.

In its official Facebook page, DepEd clarified Monday, November 20, that it is not at all associated with the Facebook page "Walang Pasok Advisory," which has been circulating false announcements on suspension of classes.

As of Tuesday, November 21, there are 10 Facebook pages named Walang Pasok Advisory.

The education office urged the public to refer to the department’s official website and social media accounts on Facebook and Twitter for reliable and truthful information.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Star announced Monday evening that it is also not affiliated with the Walang Pasok Advisory page on Facebook.

The Walang Pasok Advisory Facebook page posted on Monday that there will be no classes nationwide, both public and private, on November 28 and 29 due to the URRD Education Meeting of Teachers 2017, as well as on November 30 because it is a legal non-working holiday.

The page used a photo with the Philippine Star’s social media handles.

But “contrary to its claim, we never reported class suspensions for November 28 and 29,” said the Philippine Star.
