SAN SIMON -- Local officials of this town led by Mayor Leonora Wong on Thursday were sworn in as the newest members of the ruling Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) party at the Villa Teresa Function Hall.
Wong was joined by former three-term mayor Rodrigo Canlas, members of the Sangguniang Bayan and barangay captains, kagawads, secretaries, and lupon in the exclusive oath-taking ceremony for San Simon local officials.
Wong said that her decision to join President Rodrigo Duterte’s party was anchored on the group’s belief and its advocacy to initiate the change deserved by every Filipino.
“Nakita ko ‘yung advocacy nila, napakaganda at iyong sinusulong nilang pagbabago ay talagang inilunsad na nila sa pamununo ni Presidente Duterte. At bilang isang leader din, kahit dito lang sa local, ay gustong kong gayahin ‘yung magagandang ginagawa niya para sa bayan,” she stressed.
Even before she officially joined PDP-LABAN, Wong stressed that she has already shown support to President Duterte through her administration’s participation on the campaign against illegal drugs.
She disclosed that the local government, together with the Philippine National Police here, has encouraged some 1,048 former drug pushers and users to surrender and participate in the government’s reformation program. Some 171 of the total surrenderees already finished their rehabilitation under the Bahay Pagbabago ni Apung Pilar.
“Ang una ko talaga sinuportahan ay ‘yung war on drugs. Ang San Simon ay isa sa may pinaka-magandang reformation program dahil for three months, naka-shelter sila sa amin para ma-rehabilitate for free, pati ang food nila,” she explained.
Meanwhile, PDP-Laban Central Luzon Chairperson Tito Mendiola, who facilitated the swearing-in of leaders, acknowledged the unity of San Simon officials in their common goal of providing change to their constituents.
He stressed the unity of Simonians and the whole Kapampangan race will be essential in advocating for the needs of the province and of its people.
Mendiola also asserted that the ceremonial oath taking held Thursday is the first and only official activity of the party in San Simon.
He stressed that the PDP-Laban’s official oath taking must always be preceded by a basic membership training where the history, belief and programs pushed by the PDP-Laban, especially the advocacy to change the government system to federalism, are discussed.
"May basic membership training muna tapos kung nagustuhan nila 'yung programa o hindi, sila ang magdedesisyon bago sila tuluyan mag take oath at maging member ng PDP-Laban," he said.
