Waterfront lights up 'Smiles of the season'

NOTHING marks the beginning of Christmas like a Christmas tree that’s glowing with light.

Last November 9, the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao officially welcomed the season of gift-giving with a ceremonial launch themed "Smiles of the Season."

Christmas at Waterfront is most truly Christmas when they celebrate it by giving. Every year, the hotel partners with the Davao City Children’s Cancer Fund, Inc.’s House of Hope Foundation to share the merriments of the holidays to every child stricken with cancer. “Having themed this Christmas ‘Smiles of the Season’, we hope to give them the joy they give the world by granting their wishes and lining up some wonderful activities that are meant to entertain them”, said Hotel Manager Bryan Lasala in his welcome speech. For this year’s activity, fifty children were invited as guests of honor to the lobby ceremony and hosted into a children’s program complete with cocktails, entertainment, fun games, prizes and giveaways at the Grand Agila Ballroom.

To match well with the theme, the property featured the festive colors of Mardi Gras. The 15-foot Christmas tree was festooned with assortments of masks, glittered fleur de lis, garlands and ornaments of purple, gold and green. The ceremony highlighted a celebratory toast and curtain unveiling led by the hotel’s management team and special guests, Waterfront Hotels and Casinos’ Group Executive Chef Giovanni Sias and Guest Celebrity Chefs Roland and Jackie Laudico. Prior to the event, the children were fetched from their transient home and housed at the Vinta Bar for a private film viewing where they were asked to write down on wish cards what they most want to receive this Christmas and these wishes were passed around to guest-grantors during the ceremonial program. The gift items shall be endorsed to the hotel before a cut-off date and will be turned over to the House of Hope Foundation altogether.

In their efforts to bring the yuletide spirit to their beneficiaries, Waterfront has round up some offers where part of the proceeds will be donated for the children’s treatment fund. For stays from December 1, 2017 to January 14, 2018, P200 per room per night will be allocated for the foundation. Christmas ornaments are also made available at the front desk – hotel guests may purchase one to hang on the Christmas tree for P200, signifying their support in helping provide holistic cancer care for the Kids of Hope.

Finally, Mr. Lasala announced that the hotel will be featuring special recipes of the Laudicos as their culinary partners, among their array of holiday dining offers. “As celebrating Christmas always calls for a feast, we wish to better your holiday experience with delightful treats and savories to share with family and friends,” he said. Now that’s something to look forward to when you spend your holidays at Waterfront.

The event’s suppliers and benefactors include Upstage Productions by Arnold Alvarez, The Davao City Girls Choir led by Elena Gementiza, the University of Mindanao Chorale led by Peter Ian Buaya, Cocktails and Dreams by Christy Ablog, Dazzle Events by Jong Paguia, Events Library by Glenn Estipona, Golden Touch by Noel Tanza, Cris Audio and Lights, Progetto Special Effects, Probiotics Health and The Rotary Club of Downtown Davao.
