Sungduan: Conference capital

BAGUIO City is not just a favorite destination of tourists both local and abroad but it is also a preferred venue for seminars and conferences.

University of the Philippines-Diliman Department of Communication Research Department Head and Conference Coordinator Assistant Professor Maria Rosel San Pascual said Baguio was immediately their first choice as location for the 5th National Communication Research Conference which is being held for the first time outside UP Diliman Campus.

More than 600 Student and faculty researchers in the country registered for the three day event dubbed FCX “Filipino Communicative Experience” which started on November 22. One of the highlights is the pre-conference workshop “Pagpapahayag” which focuses on research dissemination and interactive lecture at the University of the Cordilleras.

The activity also covers lecture on presenting and publishing papers in reputable academic outlets while the research presentation covers free workshop on effective oral presentation skills and the use of visual aids.

The organizers hope to inspire all researchers to pursue research that matters making them know that this should not just end up as a document submitted solely as a requirement in school but need to be disseminated and published as communication research.

In the conference, attendees are also given tips on how to communicate research findings and publish it in journals.

“Research worth doing is research worth presenting and disseminating,” UP College of Mass Communication Dean Elena Pernia said during the opening of the conference.

Tomorrow, November 25, the last day of event features “Paglilikha”, a post conference workshop on research design for undergraduate students in partnership with the Department of Communication of UP Baguio College of Arts and Communication and for graduate students and faculty members in partnership with the University of Baguio.

Baguio with its cool climate and scenic beauty remains to be a perfect place for important gathering like the NCRC 2017 that makes people understand the importance of research in the society and the essence of letting people know about the study.

With the many conferences being held in the city, the Summer Capital of the Philippines may also be known as the Conference Capital.
