Celebrate simply: Palma

PARISHES under the Archdiocese are urged to hold their own simple Eucharistic celebrations for the the new liturgical year, said Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma.

In a press conference, Palma told reporters that since the Liturgical Year of the Parish as a Communion of Communities will end tomorrow, he asked all parishes under the Archdiocese to celebrate the end of the liturgical year at their own pace.

Palma said urged parish administrators to end the liturgical year of the Parish by intimately celebrating with their parish.

“And perhaps doing it in a parish level would also be a sign how the parish can self-reflect about communion,” Palma said.

This is contrary to the previous liturgical years wherein the Archdiocese of Cebu would organize a solemn procession from uptown to downtown Cebu City to honor Christ the King. For this new Liturgical Year of the Clergy, Palma urged his priests to think of their priestly calling as a vocation and not as a profession.

“We are here to serve,” Palma said.

Since Palma became Archbishop of Cebu, he has organized solemn processions to welcome the new liturgical year. In 2014, he organized a grand procession from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to downtown Cebu City to welcome the Liturgical Year of the Poor.

Since then, solemn processions have been organized to usher the new liturgical year. (JKV)
