BFP: Don’t leave kids alone at home

THE Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Bacolod has warned parents against leaving their children alone at home to prevent incidents that could injure or kill them.

Superintendent Rodolfo Denaga, fire marshal of BFP-Bacolod, issued the reminder after the fire incident that resulted to the deaths of three toddlers who were trapped inside their house in Barangay Felisa, Bacolod City last Thursday.

The Diloy siblings, Arthur IV, 4; Ajericho Jr., 3; and Mary Auxencia, 2, were left on their own by their father, a village watchman, when he reported to the tanod post, about 300 meters away from their house.

The bodies of Arthur IV and Ajericho Jr. were then found near the front door while Mary Auxencia’s was found inside the bedroom, where the fire broke out at 5:36 p.m.

Denaga said the fire was caused by an overheating television. Damage was estimated at P30,000.

Diloy’s wife, Jonalyn Flores, the children’s mother, who was working in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, arrived home Friday night.

Denaga said they are saddened by the incident, and advised house owners not to be complacent.
