918,000 hectares in Davao Region have CADTs

THE National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) in Davao Region has noted a total of 918,110 hectares (has.) issued with certificates of ancestral domain titles (CADT) as of October 20 this year.

Data obtained from NCIP-Davao stated that certified ancestral domain areas in Davao City estimated at 131,003 has.; 162,315 has. in Davao del Sur province; 117,687 has. in Davao del Norte; 207,182 has. in Davao Oriental; and 299,923 in Compostela Valley.

The commission has targeted to grant CADTs for areas for at least 160,000 has. in Davao City, 265,000 has. in Davao del Sur, 131,500 has. in Davao del Norte, 352,480 in Davao Oriental, and 333,600 in Compostela Valley.

Among the beneficiaries who applied for ancestral domain titles are Mandaya, Ata-Manobo tribe, Obu-Manuvu tribe, Bagobo-Klata, Sama tribe, Ata tribe, Mangguangan tribe, Bagobo-Tagabawa tribe, B’laan, B’laan-Manubo tribe, Kalagan, Kagan and Tagakaolo tribe.

Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) whose ancestral domains have been officially delineated and determined by the NCIP shall be issued a CADT in the name of the community concerned.

The NCIP-Davao earlier launched its Philippine Indigenous Peoples Ethnographies (Pipes) program, which aims to vitalize resources that can help build self-sustaining Indigenous Cultural Communities all over the country.

NCIP-Davao regional director Geroncio Aguio said the program is a flagship project of the commission, which focuses on expansion activities of the core mandates of the commission.

Aguio said that Pipes was developed in response to President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive to make use of the ancestral domains for rights-based developments of the IPs.
