Agriculture through art

CELEBRATING the 13th National Biotechnology Week last November 20-24, an art exhibit featuring the works of Jose Burgos III, a farmer, visual artist, and eldest son of press-freedom and Biotechnology icon Jose Burgos Jr. was showcased at the Expo Hall of Fisher Mall, Quezon City.

Dubbed as “Linang: Agriculture biotechnology and art”, it features 12 acrylic paintings of Sonny visualizing his thoughts on agriculture biotechnology as one of the effectives solutions to the problem that farmers face nowadays.

Painting for 38 years now, the artist believes that the word “Linang” captures the essence of the stage at which Biotechnology should be at, in the context of Philippine Agriculture.

Linang, in the language of farmers is described as the final stage where the land is being prepared for planting.

The paintings are replete with symbolisms taken from myriad of issues affecting the development and progress of biotechnology in agriculture. Abounding with multiple meanings (the child could be a Filipino, the poor or the future), the artist utilizes varied applications of medium and styles and composition to convey the message of the crucial role of biotechnology in changing world.
