Oro’s 3rd ToyCon held in Limketkai

PRODUCED by Kristoffer Jan Liao and Rick Tidoy of Cagayan de Oro Toyzone in partnership with Limketkai Cente, toy collectors, hobbyists, and cosplay enthusiasts gathered at the Limketkai Rotunda for its two-day annual show over the weekend.

Following the success of the two consecutive Toy Shows last 2015 and 2016, this year’s toy convention is packed with even more exciting activities and allowed toy collectors and hobbyists to display their own collections.

CDO Toyzone is a group of Kagay-anon toy hobbyists who want to share the experience and the joy of toy collecting to other people. Toy conventions are celebrated and anticipated all over the world such as ToyCon, Hobbycon, San Diego Comic Con and many more.

"I've been to several toy conventions around the world-- Manila toycon, San Diego Comicon, AFA and Wonder toycon at Japan and there was no such event here in CDO before. The collectors here are growing exponentially, we’re getting new members, new people interested in collecting toys. People want to show-off what they have,” Tidoy said.

The highlight of the event showcased high quality figures from various toy brands and companies such as Goodsmile, Square Enix, Hot Toys, Kotobukiya, Bandai, Hasbro and many others.

This year's toy convention theme focused on bringing back memories of the 90s.

"A lot of us collectors are 90s babies. Because toy collecting is something, showing-off our child side, many of us grew in the 90's so were gonna bring that era back," Tidoy said.

Aside from the toy exhibit, other activities included cosplay contests, cardfight vanguard and magic tournament, an art exhibit, Gundam Building and customization contest and the first ever toy photography here in Northern Mindanao.

Exhibitors for this year’s ToyCON included collectors from Iligan, Bukidnon and from CDO.

The exhibition included displays of remote controlled toys, drones from Project Lupad, model planes and cars, transformers, gunplan, 90s old and new anime figures, streetfighters, statue figures, Marvels and DC comic books, videogames, scribbles art studio, Affinity Games, card Games and Gundam and 80's Robot Collections.

There were an estimated 60 exhibitors and cosplayers included participants from Gensan, Iligan, CDO and Bukidnon.
