3 districts tapped for World Aids day

THREE health districts representing north and south areas in Davao City were especially tapped for the observation of the World Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (Aids) day on December 1.

Davao City Reproductive Health and Wellness Center (RHWC) head Jordana Ramiterre on Monday, November 27, during the weekly flag ceremony, said that pre-events prior to December 1 were conducted in three districts for the singing and dance competitions.

“Kung sino yung nanalo from Buhangin, Tugbok, and Bankerohan, will be competing at Almedras Gym,” she said.

Ramiterre said that winners of the competitions will be proclaimed on the afternoon event.

“Medyo busy ngayon ang World Aids day because we know we need to work hard because HIV is increasing. We want to make everybody aware, hindi lang dito sa city central, ginawa natin yung coverage but also in different health districts representing the south and north,” she said.

Meanwhile, aside from these competitions, Department of Health officials headed by Department of Health Secretary, Dr. Francisco Duque III and officials from the DOH, and also local officials in the city will participate in the forum on access of testing for children in the HIV-Aids program in the morning.

They will especially tackle the issue of giving proxy consent to minors to avail HIV testing.

In Davao City, the recent data from the Department of Health recorded a total number of 230 HIV positive from January to June this year, with a grand total of 2,080 cases since 1984.

The youngest case so far according to Ramiterre is a child who acquired the virus by birth.

Davao City Councilor Mary Joselle Villafuerte in a press conference last week said that the youngest case of acquired HIV-Aids is only 13 years old.
