Agency asked to remove police in traffic ops

FORMER Baguio City mayor Reinaldo Bautista Jr. have asked the regional police organization to refrain from conducting traffic operations since this is not a part of their mandate.

In the sixth and final meeting of the Police Regional Office – Cordillera Regional Advisory Council, the former chief executive stressed traffic is not a function of the police but instead should focus more on peace and order initiatives.

"I find it very insulting to see policemen conducting traffic when in fact, they should be focusing on peace and order. It is not their learning to manage traffic," said Bautista.

Based on the vision of the country’s national police, it has been tasked to be a highly capable, effective and credible police service working in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safer place to live, work and do business.

"The main mission of our police is to enforce the law, prevent and control crimes, maintain peace and order, and to ensure public safety and internal security with the active support of the community," the former chief executive stressed.
