THE Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 has prepared for protests that will be held by militant and cause-oriented groups in Cebu City today, Bonifacio Day.
Supt. Reyman Tolentin, PRO 7 information officer, said THAT the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) has been tasked to secure the rallies. Teams from CCPO’s Civil Disturbance Management are ready to respond if there is an untoward incident.
Participants will start their protest inside the Fuente Osmeña Circle and will end with a program on Colon St.
Tolentin said they received a report that supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte will also hold a rally at Plaza Independencia in Cebu City.
In a related development, a group of University of the Philippines-Cebu students held an indignation rally to denounce the ambush of a fact-finding mission team from Karapatan in Bayawan City, Negros Occidental.
Anakbayan spokesperson Joise Cesista said they will not just sit down and look at the killings that are happening in the country.
Last Tuesday afternoon, two persons allied with the group were shot and killed in Bayawan, according to Anakbayan Central Visayas secretary general Niño Olayvar.
The victims were identified as Eloisa Badayos of Karapatan-Dumaguete and Elioterio Moises of KMP, who were part of an investigating team on the alleged killings and human rights violations against civilians and farmer-leaders in the area.
A UP Cebu graduate was also reportedly hurt during the attack. The injured person has been transferred to Cebu City for medical treatment. (KAL/Rolyn May Jumao-as, USJ-R Intern)
