GMA to relaunch 'StarStruck,' will ABS-CBN do the same?

GMA Network is set to relaunch its popular talent reality show, "StarStruck," next year. What could be the exciting changes or additions it is bound to introduce?

It can be recalled that the TV station's artista search made waves in 2003 until 2015. It was able to discover huge talents and created some of the biggest names in the industry today.

Its first Male and Female Ultimate Survivors are Mark Herras and Jennylyn Mercado, respectively. Meanwhile, its latest winners are Klea Pineda and Migo Adecer. The reality-based talent search also jumpstarted the careers of Sarah Lahbati, Kris Bernal, Aljur Abrenica, Rocco Nacino, LJ Reyes, Yasmien Kurdi, Nadine Samonte, Paulo Avelino, and Cristine Reyes, among others.

Apart from announcing about its comeback via an article published on GMANetwork.com last November 27, no other details have been disclosed yet, including its hosts, exact premiere date, and audition schedules all over the country.

In the past, Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes hosted the show's six seasons. His fans might have been hoping already to still see him in the reality-based TV program's seventh season.

As a fan of the show, I am personally hoping to see exciting innovations in its voting system and how each contestant's versatility as a future face of the Philippine showbiz industry will be tested.

Considering that the giant network has already revealed this plan for 2018, would its rival, ABS-CBN, follow suit?

Early this year, the Kapamilya Network announced about the revival of its own artista search, the "Star Circle Quest," via an article published on ABS-CBN.com. The show actually produced some of today's famous artists, such as K-Pop star Sandara Park and Erich Gonzales.

However, it will no longer be a standalone show. Instead, it will only be a segment of its noontime program "It's Showtime."

It can be noted that ABS-CBN has been adopting such strategy; integrating some regular programs into its 8th-year-old mid-noontime variety show. For one, the singing competition "Tawag ng Tanghalan" has been a major crowd-drawer for It's Showtime. Another segment it has been airing is "Funny One," which aims to find a new breed of comedians.
