20 Davao teachers to go to Israel for training

TWENTY teachers from public comprehensive high school within Davao City are set to undergo capacity building in Israel for the implementation of the Innovation, Science and Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (Isteam) program.

Davao City Information Office announced last Tuesday that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) of “Excellence in Education: A Lighthouse Project with PassItForward Chairman Shmuel Weiss and witnessed by Israel Ambassador to the Philippines Effie Ben Matityau, at City Hall, Friday last week.

This MOA serves as a declaration of commitment and partnership of the City Government of Davao, and non-government organizations from Israel and the Department of Education for the successful implementation of the iSteam.

ISteam, a model for improving the delivery of quality education, is developed for Dabawenyo learners by providing capacity building activities for secondary teachers which will be implemented within an identified school within the city.

The sharing of the iSteam program to the city is one of the realization of the promise of the Israeli government to partner with the city for education and cooperation enhancement after the delegation from Davao City led by Assistant City Administrator Bantiding and Davao City Investment and Promotion Center went to Israel last April 25 to 27, 2017.

Duterte-Carpio in a press conference last week thanked the delegation from Israel for the project.

“We would like to thank you to your support in Department of Education in Davao City. We are very happy that you went through with your promise to help us with education here in Davao city and the Philippines and we are excited as to the outcome of assistance to the method of teaching and our pilot school here in Mintal and we hope that this partnership will have an effect in the Senior High School (SHS) of Department of Education,” she said.

She added that the city hopes to produce quality graduates coming out of the project.

“Hopefully, because of education, because of the improved education, we produce students that are prepared for college education, that are prepared for whatever path they choose to take after the SHS program,” she said.

“Thank you so much because we know that Israel, it terms of technology, in terms of modernization, by leaps and bounds far greater than Davao city and the Philippines, we appreciate the help that you do for Davao City and for the Philippines,” she added.
