Prices of beef, native chicken in NegOcc up

PRICES of beef and native chicken among markets in Negros Occidental slightly increased, latest weekly price monitoring of the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO) showed.

PVO reported that from P233.26 per kilogram last week, the average prevailing price of beef in the province moved up to P233.31 per kilogram.

Provincial Veterinarian Renante Decena yesterday said the P0.05 per kilogram increase is “negligible” as the average price comprises those reported in 32 cities and towns.

“If the increase is five to 10 percent higher than the previous monitoring then it would be significant,” Decena said, adding that the slight increase won’t hurt consumers.

PVO reported P1.33 increase per kilogram for native chicken. From P210.27, it went up to P211.60 per kilogram.

Decena said that based on trends, the increase is mainly attributed to the upward movement on product’s price in Fourth and Sixth Districts.

Possibly, the reason is the cost of handling from the dressing plant, he added.

Meanwhile, prices of other livestock and poultry products like carabeef, pork, and broiler chicken remained steady.

PVO reports showed that a kilogram of carabeef still costs P227.11 while prices of pork and broiler remained at P195.83 and P155.33 per kilogram, respectively.

Decena said the province has surplus in supply of pork.

The shipment is also minimal thus, the province’s consumption can really be supplied by the local production, he added.

“Our monitoring is weekly basis thus, possibly the movement of these products are stable. The demand brought by local tourism is also the same,” Decena said.
