A fusion of fairy tales

THE Cebu Centre for Dance (CCD) will premiere “Once Upon a Tutu: A Ballet of Fairy Tales” as its original grand recital piece tomorrow at Onstage, Ayala Center Cebu, Cinema One. It will be a ballet in two acts interpreting six different fairy tales from the master storytellers Hans Christian Andersen and the Grimm Brothers: “Hansel and Gretel,” “The Little Mermaid,” “The Snow Queen,” “The Emperor and the Nightingale,” “The Elves and The Shoemaker,” “The Twelve Dancing Princesses” and “Thumbelina.”

CCD especially shipped a guest artist for this show namely Mark Anthony Grantos, who is a former company member of Ballet Philippines. He will be dancing alongside CCD’s featured dancers including Sabrina Bogard, Monica Villarica, Giselle Abalos, Megan Chan, Niña Javelosa, Kaye Lani Deloria, Chloe Capatoy, Sofia Delavin and Jeff Tapang as well as classical ballet, contemporary and hip-hop students. The production will feature original choreography from CCD’s very own senior faculty Mary Poblete-Chan, Carmel Cabaero, Johanna Mangubat as well as associate and guest faculty members Monica Villarica, Megan Chan, Rufo Jeffrey Tapang and Marius Centino.
