Porac town officials destroy modified motorcycle mufflers

PORAC town officials destroyed dozens of modified motorcycle mufflers confiscated from motorcycle users here in the past weeks.

The modified mufflers are customized to amplify engine noise at full throttle.

The activity held in front of the municipal hall was witnessed by Porac Municipal Police chief Maharlika Oscar C. Villasis, Mayor Condralito "Carling" B. Dela Cruz and Board Member Fritzie David-Dizon.

The police have been confiscating noisy motorcycle mufflers to abate motorcycles spreading noise pollution in streets.

Dela Cruz said that noisy motorcycle mufflers are disruptive to local communities and can even distract other drivers on the road leading to accidents.

Dela Cruz said that police have been ordered to apprehend motorcycle riders using modified mufflers. Users changing the muffler of motorcycles causes noise pollution, a violation of the Joint Administrative Order (JAO) 2014-001 of the Land Transportation Office.

The use of improvised mufflers is also a violation of the Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code of the Philippines.
