Davao City mayor: Make children happy this Christmas

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio highlighted care and concern for children this Christmas season during the launch of Pasko Fiesta celebration last Friday.

"Foremost this season while for everyone is especially for children. Let us make this season an avenue where we can take a look at how to improve the lives and the welfare of our Dabawenyo children. If we will be able to make every child happy, and free from hunger that will be a gift that will be enjoyed beyond this season," Duterte-Carpio said in her speech during the opening.

She also encouraged everyone to be compassionate for people who are in need this season.

The opening was attended by representatives from Omni Electrical and Lighting Company, which sponsored the 40-foot Christmas Tree now towering at Rizal Park.

It was also attended by the representatives from the Province of Pampanga, which donated a 15-foot giant parol (Christmas lantern) to the city, which is now mounted near the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

Hundreds of people, residents, visitors, stood excitedly as Duterte-Carpio finally pushed the button that lit up the City Hall Complex with blinking lights in the trees, the giant Christmas tree, and the facade of the Davao City hall, which was decked with candy-themed design.
