COUNTERFEIT Dove and Tresemme Shampoos are being sold in the market now and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) called on the public to be more cautious and to only purchase in authorized supermarkets.

FDA released a statement warning public against the purchase of Dove Nutritive Solutions Oxygen and Nourishment Shampoo with Lot/Batch Number of L-37 SKK, with manufacture date note of F-2017, and expiry date note of F-2020. The counterfeit product comes in a 700ml packaging, which is actually not available or being manufactured for trade in the Philippines.

It was also said that authentic version of the product does not have a shrink wrap. It also have a different product coding format from the authentic version.

On the other hand, a Tresemme Smooth and Shine Shampoo, with no indication of Lot/Batch Number, as well as manufacture and expiry date, was also declared to be counterfeit as well. Authentic version of this Tresemme product does not have a shrink wrap on its bottle pump. The counterfeit product also still uses the outdated layout of Tresemme Shampoo.

Together with Market Authorization Holder (MAH) and Unilever Philippines Inc., the licensed local distributor, the said products had been verified to indeed be counterfeit.

FDA added that counterfeit products have not undergone necessary testing by the agency and may pose health-related danger to the consumers if continued to be used.

"The dangers/hazards may come from ingredients that are not allowed to be part of a cosmetic product or from the contamination of heavy metals such as lead and mercury. The use of substandard and possibly adulterated cosmetic products may result to adverse reactions including but not limited to skin irritations, itchiness, anaphylactic shock and organ failure," said FDA's official statement.
