Over 100,000 kids given dengue vaccine in Cebu monitored

THE Department of Health (DOH)-Central Visayas assured that they are closely monitoring more than 100,000 children in Cebu that have been given the dengue vaccine as of this year.

Dr. Jaime Bernadas, DOH-Central Visayas director, told reporters that they have already tasked the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit-Central Visayas to conduct monitoring on all children that were given Dengvaxia to determine if they will contract severe dengue following vaccination.

Of 332,779 children in Cebu that were qualified to be vaccinated with Dengvaxia, only 159,776 were given the vaccine, Bernadas said.

Bernadas said that as of this year, they have not received any complaints from children that were already vaccinated.

They are also seeking clarification from Dengvaxia's manufacturer, Sanofi S.A., on what they meant as "severe dengue," including the type of adverse effects that affect a child when vaccinated.
