Espedilla: Is having sex deadly? (Part 1)

DEAR Dr. Fritz,

I am James. I am writing to you because I believe that this issue is on your expertise. I have a heart problem lately. I have heard that one could die because of sex. Is this true? This is giving me some mental torture. Does this mean that I could no longer have sex?

Please help me out. Thank you and more power to you always.

James of SV

Dear James of SV,

Before, I would dwell with your problem, please don't mentally torture yourself at this point. Depression and stress may kill you more than sex. Do not believe in all the things you have heard. This wouldn't help you. It will only bring you to unreasonable fear.

Well, I couldn't blame you for hearing those stories - after all, it's a favorite movie scene. There's an older guy so enthusiastic to have sex with someone half his age and in the movie, he died. I also remember another one with Katrina Halili and Ricky Davao, who died before the sexual encounter with a smile from end to end in his face. But, in real life, this rarely happens, according to a new study conducted at Heart Rhythm Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

In that study, sex was linked to only 34 out of more than 4,500 cardiac arrests that happened in Portland, Oregon, metropolitan area between 2002 and 2015. This is a rate of just 0.7 percent, as noted by the researchers. Well, if you are one of those in the 34 people or the 0.7 percent, luck is not just on your side.

This report means that this is a very welcoming news to those patients who have heart problems who are not sure if sex could be dangerous in their part, just like you do because this only means that the risk of dying because of sex is very low.

Just remember that sex is not as strenuous as other people would believe. So, if you can climb two flight of stairs with no problem, then, you should not have any problem with sex. Remember that, because that is the rule of thumb - whether or not you are fit to have sex or not when you have a heart problem.

Oh, oh, I would have wanted to talk more, but, since we are running of space for now, so, let me then, continue this in my next issue. Until then!
