THE People’s Law Enforcement Board (Pleb) dismissed the 13 cases filed against the personnel of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO).
Councilor Ricardo Tan, chairman of PLEB, said yesterday that of the 24 cases filed against policemen not resolved for about 10 years, 13 cases were dismissed during the hearing last Friday.
Tan is currently acting vice mayor. Vice Mayor El Cid Familiaran issued Memorandum No. 16-2017 designating Tan to take over until his return from Vigan, Ilocos Sur for an official travel.
Tan said most of the complainants failed to attend the series of hearings, and some of them are already dead.
Some of the respondents have also retired from the service, he added.
Pleb is also set to issue resolutions on five other cases filed against policemen.
Pleb, established by virtue of Republic Act Nos. 6975 and 8551, is the central receiving entity for any citizen's complaint against the officers and members of the Philippine National Police. It conducts hearings, resolve, and render decision on cases filed against the erring police officers.
Other members of the Pleb include Granada Village chief Alfredo Talimodao Jr., representing the villages; lawyer Jovim Entila of Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Negros Occidental Chapter; former councilor Celia Flor of the women’s sector; and Antonio Te from the private sector.
Tan said only six cases remain, which need to be resolved within the month.
