Public, police need to forge strong ties

IT is necessary for the police and the community to create and sustain a strong partnership to successfully carry out any initiative that aims to uphold the rule of law.

This was Gov. Hilario Davide III’s message during the Chief PNP (Philippine National Police) Night at the Capitol Social Hall in connection with the 3rd Advisory Council Summit 2017 last Tuesday.

The summit was dubbed as “Strengthening Linkages, Enhancing Partnership.”

As a strategy partner of the PNP, the advisory council is composed of sectoral leaders and experts.

“I believe the PNP could surely gather valuable insights, innovative ideas and perspectives, and helpful guidance as you continue to fulfill your duties and responsibilities,” Davide said.

PNP Director General Ronald dela Rosa failed to attend the dinner hosted by the Provincial Government as he was in the US.

However, in his written message read by Chief Supt. Noel Baraceros of Camp Crame, dela Rosa said that the Police Advisory Council, particularly in Cebu, is strong.

The National Advisory Council is headed by Cebuano businessman Prudencio Gesta, a former president of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI). The advisory council in Cebu is headed by businessman Jose Yuvallos and Ma. Teresa Chan as chairman and vice chairperson, respectively. Both Yuballos and Chan are former presidents of CCCI.

“Allow me to reiterate that the maintenance and implementation of the law and order is a shared responsibility. A shared responsibility between law enforcers and the community who they have sworn to serve,” Davide said.

The governor said the creation of the advisory council is an acknowledgment that cooperation and the collaboration of all the stakeholders is a must, especially in maintaining a peaceful and orderly society.

“We have learned the importance of inclusive and participatory governance. To include them in identifying issues and concerns, in formulating possible solutions and in carrying out these solutions,” Davide said.

During the Chief PNP Night, the Provincial Government donated to the police P2.6 million worth of tactical gear composed of Kevlar helmets, Kevlar vests, and ballistic gear. Franco III and Christopher Baricuatro.
