PVO brings services to 3rd District raisers

THE Provincial Veterinary Office (PVO), through its Producing Livestock, Providing Livelihood, Improving Lives (Pro-Lives) program, delivered various services to animal raisers in the Third District of Negros Occidental.

At least 600 animal raisers and members of some farmers' associations in the said district attended the livestock and poultry seminar in E.B. Magalona Wednesday, December 6.

The one-day Pro-Lives activity, in collaboration with the Municipal Agriculture Office, also included meat processing training benefiting 90 women.

Cathy Narez, project development officer II, said Pro-Lives is a community outreach program initiated by the provincial government through the PVO.

“It is a one-stop-shop activity where all PVO services, including veterinary medical mission, meat processing training, livestock and poultry management seminar, values formation, and milk feeding program are being made available to the community,” she added.

For values formation, about 300 students of E.B. Magalona National High School attended the activity facilitated by Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ-Kabankalan Church.

PVO also distributed 550 packs of milk to preschoolers of five Day Care Centers in the district.

Also highlighting the activity was the distribution of projects, including 500 heads of free-range chicken, 15 heads of cockerel, seven heads of goats, and two piglets.

Recipient farmer-raisers also received 100 seedlings of tricantera, 100 pieces of madre de cacao as planting materials, 100 seedlings of mulberry, and five sacks of napier cuttings.

All in all, the total cost of projects given, including veterinary medicine, amounted to about P150,000.

Earlier this year, PVO also brought the Pro-Lives program in the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Districts. The activity for the remaining two districts is scheduled next year.
