Suspect in Talisay City jail strafing shot dead

A 21-YEAR-OLD man, who was one of two suspects who strafed the jail facility in Talisay City, was shot dead a few minutes after he was released from detention mid-afternoon Thursday, December 7.

Arjan Ababon Bacus, a resident of Sitio Crusher, Barangay Lawaan 3, just got out of the Talisay City Jail in Barangay Maghaway after spending a few weeks in jail when two men onboard a motorcycle approached him outside the jail’s gates at 3:19 p.m. and peppered him with bullets.

Senior Police 2 Yvonne Illustrisimo of the Talisay City Police Station said the gunman suddenly pulled out a .45 caliber pistol and started shooting at Bacus.

Bacus evaded the volley of gunfire and was able run more than 30 meters away from the jail facility before he fell in a grassy portion along the road leading to Barangay Linao.

Witnesses told policemen that Bacus already sustained gunshot wounds on his back and fell flat on the grass when the gunman finished him off.

The suspects then fled towards Barangay Linao.

Illustrisimo believes that the mastermind behind the jail’s strafing may have been behind Bacus’ murder.

Last month, Bacus and Briones executed an affidavit against their employer for ordering them to strafe the Talisay City Jail twice this year.

While they now have an idea who Bacus' employer is, Illustrisimo said they won't divulge the name of the mastermind while investigation is ongoing.

Bacus was released from detention after a robbery with homicide charge filed against him a few years ago was dismissed by the Court.

Bacus and fellow suspect Troy Briones are facing an attempted murder charge in the strafing incident at the Talisay City Jail last month.

Two strafing incidents were also reported earlier this year.

The first incident was in June and another in July.

Police were eyeing drugs behind these two incidents but no one has been arrested until the November incident. (Justin Vestil/SunStar Cebu)
