SunStar columnist bags financial literacy award

FORMER SunStar Davao editor, now columnist Nelson C. Bagaforo bagged this year's Sinag: Sun Life's Financial Literacy Journalism Awards for Mindanao.

Sun Life Financial Inc. recognized anew on Wednesday, December 6, at the Fairmont Hotel, Makati City the vital role of the journalists in achieving its goal of enabling a financially literate country.

Other winners include Vernon Josef Go of The Freeman for Visayas and Daxim Lucas of the Philippine Daily Inquirer for Luzon. Each winner received P35,000 cash, plus a Sun Life Prosperity Fund starter fund worth P5,000 and a trophy.

"Sinag Awards is our way of honoring your efforts to boost financial literacy in the country through the stories you write in your respective publications. Your support in this advocacy remains as crucial as ever, as we strive to lead more Filipinos towards the path to financial freedom," Sun Life said in a press statement.

Now on its 4th year, Sinag Awards continues to be a nationwide competition, open to print journalists and digital influencers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

"We welcomed stories that tackle subjects related to financial literacy, such as entrepreneurship, long-term financial planning, studies about the Filipinos’ financial habits, and updates about the market. These simply need to be educational, inspiring, and useful in helping Filipinos appreciate the topic of finances, the importance of money management, and the benefits of financial security," Sun Life said.
