7 government employees test positive for drug use

SEVEN employees working for the local government units (LGUs) of Danao City and Alegria tested positive for illegal drug use during a week-long surprise drug test conducted by the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO).

Carmen Durano-Meca, CPADAO head, told reporters that they conducted surprise drug tests on 843 government employees working for the LGUs of Danao City, municipalities of Alegria and Aloguinsan; and the village units of Looc in Danao City and Lamac in Consolacion.

In Danao City, two regular employees and three job order workers were found positive of illegal drug use when CPADAO conducted a surprise drug test there Thursday, December 7.

A total of 440 employees of the Danao City Hall underwent the drug test.

Meca said they also conducted drug tests on 55 garbage collecters hired by Barangay Looc, Danao City officials in which one was found positive.

In Alegria, one out of 157 employees of the town hall tested positive of illegal drug use during a surprise drug test last December 5.

But Meca clarified that they will still submit the results of the drug tests to the Department of Health in Manila for confirmatory tests.

Once the confirmatory tests will be released, Meca said that the government employees who were found positive of illegal drug use will be dealt with accordingly.

In a related development, a teacher assigned in Danao City was found positive of illegal drug use during a confirmatory test two weeks ago. The teacher was initially found positive of illegal drug use during a surprise drug test in their school last October.

Meca said they have forwarded the results to the Cebu Provincial Schools Division for the latter’s decision.
