Dela Rosa headed to another agency upon retirement

PHILIPPINE National Police (PNP) chief Ronald Dela Rosa said Tuesday, December 12, that President Rodrigo Duterte has told him that he will be appointed to will lead another agency after his retirement in January 2018.

“Sinabihan ako ni President kung ano ang pupuntahan ko (which is) the most challenging na trabaho sa buong gobyerno sabi n’ya where everyone failed I expect you to be successful. Imaginin n’yo nalang pinakamahirap na trabaho sabi nya everyone failed in that agency. Mahirap magsabi tapos hindi naman pala pero alam ko na, sabi ko yes sir I’m at your disposal,” he said.

(The president told me where I am headed. It's the most challenging job in the entire government. He said where everyone failed, he expects me to be successful. Just imagine, it's the toughest job in government he said. I said, "Yes, Sir, I’m at your disposal.)

Dela Rosa declined to divulge the agency, but said he was ready for the job.

“Matagal na n’yang sinasabi paulit-ulit, yan na naman may problema punta ka doon ayusin mo (He has been asking me to go to that agency and fix the problems). I don’t run away from challenges lalo na magbigay ‘yung pinaka-respetado ko na tao hindi ko s’ya ipapahiya gawin ko lahat (especially if the person I respect the most gave me the job. I will do everything so as not to let him down),” Dela Rosa added.

Dela Rosa is set to retire on January 21, when he reaches the mandatory retirement age of 56 for police officers.

Before he was appointed as the top police officer in the country on July 2016, Dela Rosa served as the Davao City police director while President Rodrigo Duterte was the mayor. (SunStar Philippines)
