Davao City bags Kalasag, Most Child-Friendly awards

DAVAO City bagged back-to-back awards for the Best Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (Kalasag Award) and the Most Child-Friendly City for Highly-Urbanized Category.

"Dabawenyos are committed to nation-building. These awards are contribution to our country," Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio said.

The Kalasag award was received by Davao City administrator lawyer Zuleika T. Lopez, Davao City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Emmanuel Jaldon, and Office of the Civil Defense regional director Leoncio Cirunay last December 11 during the 19th Gawad Kalasag National Awarding Ceremony at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Quezon City.

Lyndon Leovic Ancajas, training officer of Davao City Risk Reduction and Management Office, who was also among those who joined the awarding ceremony, congratulated all those who contributed to this award.

"Congratulations to everyone who contributed to this very special award for Davao City," Ancajas posted on his Facebook account.

Aside from the award for disaster response, the city also bagged the Hall of Fame for the Most Child Friendly City for Highly Urbanized Category.

This is the sixth time the city bagged the award, as it won the same award in 1998, 1999, 2013, 2014, and 2015.

Davao City Social Services and Development Office (CSSDO) head Maria Luisa T. Bermudo even in previous interview said that she is very positive that the city can get the award.

"I am positive because we really have what it takes to get the hall of fame. We did our best for our programs. We are always in the forefront in our initiatives and our best practices for our children. Although we encounter issues and problems, the fact is we face them, and we created programs through our partnership with the local government organizations," she said.
