Sangil: Not in one hundred years

IT IS important to have hope. As they usually say, hope springs eternal. When us voted for the feisty mayor of Davao City to become the Malacañang tenant we crossed our fingers that indeed change is coming. Yes he wanted to change many things, but us the constituency apparently wouldn’t change our ways even in one hundred years.

I was browsing on my Facebook and encountered a certain Ms. Sandy Arellano’s live post and immediately I sensed something wrong happened because her beautiful face was already contorted due to anger. She was at the arrival area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and on the background were fellow arrivals who were jostling with one another near the baggage carousel.

She was saying she just came from Hongkong, Macao and Korea and her fellow Filipinos followed rules in those places, and once they landed in the Philippines they became so undisciplined. ‘They acted like animals’, she observed. ‘Discipline is a bulls—t’, she added. She was really annoyed when she asked a security man to pinpoint to the passengers and fix the problem. And the worst part when she complained, the answer was ‘wala na tayong magagawa Mam’. OMG. I suggest to President Duterte and to Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade to relieve the general manager there and overhaul airport management. Otherwise Duterte’s promise of change is not really there. (Hindi pagbabago kung hindi pangagago, said my friends from Monday Club and dabarkads at the Tong-it’s group at Villa Angela Tennis Club.

Talking about airports, I wish to give a warm handshake to my friend Alexander Caugiran for given so many awards, the latest of which was from no less than CAAP, the state agency in charge of airports all over the country. Clark Airport under Alex was voted as one of the best airports in Asia. WOW. The Bases Conversion Development Authority (BCDA) recently announced that five firms were found to be eligible bidders for the Clark Airport P12.5 billion terminal expansion project. It is scheduled that we will know who will undertake the project on Friday December 15.

In the meantime, it is observed that more business groups are investing in major infrastructure projects. Conglomerates like Alliance Globe Group, Metro Pacific Investment Corp, JG Summit Holdings Inc and the Lucio Tan Group whom the business circle in Metro Manila dubbed it as the super consortium are joining forces to develop and operate the NAIA. Getting interesting. How this development will impact on Clark Airport is what we wanted President Caugiran to explain.
