A NEWLY-FORMED transport company in Cebu City has applied for a certificate of public utility jeepney service and submitted an application for fare setting under the Omnibus Franchising Guidelines (OFG).
Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) 7 Director Ahmed Cuizon said this will fasttrack the order of President Rodrigo Duterte to modernize jeepney transport starting January 2018.
The OFG, which is under the modernization law, is giving all transport operators to modernize their fleet within three years.
However, the three years will start on Jan. 1, 2018 as ordered by Duterte, who got irked by the transport strikes conducted by some transport sector groups.
The new group is called Persano Corp. and chaired by Ryan Benjamin Yu, who is also chairperson of the Cebu Integrated Transport Service Cooperative (Citrasco).
Persano’s main office is in Pasig City, Metro Manila, but the LTFRB 7 can serve summons, notices and orders to Yu’s Citrasco office on JM Basa St. in Barangay San Nicolas Proper, Cebu City.
Yu told Sunstar Cebu that at least 20 air-conditioned jeepney units, with a capacity of 35 passengers, would ply within the routes-Cebu City Hall to Cebu Asiatown IT Park via Robinsons Galleria Cebu and Cebu Business Park and vice versa, if the application is approved.
Yu said that the 20 jeepneys are compliant with the Department of Transportation (DOTr) Order 2017-0111, as the door is located at the curbside, it is equipped with GPS (global positioning system), dash board cameras, security cameras and has Wi-Fi, among others features.
Persano asked for a P15 fare for the first four kilometers and an additional P1.00 for each succeeding kilometer. (EOB)
