Tribes ready for Kan-anan

MEMBERS of the eleven tribes are now gearing up for the opening of the Kan-anan sa Tribo at Magsaysay Park on December 15.

Ata Tribe deputy mayor Roel Arthur Ali told SunStar Davao last Tuesday that the Ata tribe is preparing the ingredients for the delicacies they will showcase during the Kan-anan sa Tribo.

"Amo jud na nga gipangandaman labi na tung delicacy sa among tribo para among ma-presenta para sa Pasko Fiesta para at least mapakita namo nga mao ni ang delicacy sa among tribo. Sa pagkakaron nagprepara jud mi nangandam para diha (We are preparing for this event since the delicacies of our tribe will be presented and showcased during the Pasko Fiesta. At least we can show them our delicacy. As of the moment we are really preparing for it)," Ali said.

He added that the preparation will not be very difficult as the ingredients of the delicacies they have can already be found in their place; however, they just need time to transport these ingredients from their homes to the tribal village in Magsaysay Park.

Ali said for their tribe, the bamboo and various leaves that could only be found in the mountains are among the ingredients that need to be transported.

"Naa man gud mi mga dahon nga didto gyud sa amoang bukid na usually mao jud to ang ginagamit, kadtong gusto namo mapakita. Naningkamot mi kung naa pa'y mga unsa ni ihalas na meat, ug uban pa na mapakita namo para matilawan dili lang sa Dabawenyo pati napud sa mubisita sa Davao during Pasko Fiesta (There are kind of leaves that can only be found in the mountains that we were usually used, so that is what we want to showcase. We are also seeking out if we can find wild boar meat and others so that we can show it and be made available to be tried not only by Dabawenyos but also by visitors that will come here during the Pasko Fiesta celebration)," Ali said.

Aside from Ali and the Ata Tribe, the Maguindanaon tribe is also conducting their preparations for the food showcase.

Joe Abbas, volunteer at the Maguindanaon tribe said they are ready to show their ethnic delicacies.

"Marami kaming (i-offer) na mga exotic foods of our tribe," Abbas.

He also assured that they made sure that from December 15 to 30 the delicacies will be made available.
