Centcom joins drill for Big One

TO prepare for the Big One, the Central Command of the Armed Forces of Philippines (AFP-Centcom) joined the nationwide earthquake drill yesterday.

Col. Medel Aguilar, Centcom spokesperson, said they conducted a simulation through an exchange of communications with general headquarters and other unified commands.

Here’s the situation: what would our soldiers do if the central unit of communication from the AFP base down to the other base was destroyed?

The drill was to test and evaluate Centcom’s contingency plan dubbed as “Pagluwas,” which is a response to the destruction a huge earthquake could cause.

The Big One refers to the possibility of a 7.2 magnitude earthquake if the West Valley Fault moves.

The simulation tested the protocol that will be implemented if the Big One hits. Several times this year, government agencies and groups like the Red Cross have conducted drills to prepare for such a catastrophe.

With the military were other personnel deployed to provide humanitarian assistance and conduct disaster response operations.

It was launched on the Camp Lapu-Lapu Grounds and joined by response and rescue teams from the Centcom. (JOB)
